IN THIS LESSON
Gran bwa questions “I gave you the gift to talk to those that came before. the conversation sprouted fauna of sacred understanding. What have you come to heal and what have you come to leave behind?”
Gran Bwa—creole for Great Tree—is the master of the forest, a master herbalist, and a master magician right next to Mèt Kafou and Bawon Simityè. He’s a nature or elemental spirit found in big trees like the famous Mapou in Haiti. During colonial times, runaway slaves called maroons hidden deep in the woods would be taught by Gran Bwa in the arts of herbal medicine to cure illnesses and make poisons to use against slave masters. As a master magician, he has complete knowledge of the secrets of magic hidden in the vegetal world. In possession, he would drink rum through the ears of his horse (the mounted person).
